Dermal Fillers

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers at phskin stoke-on-trent

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injected into the skin to plump out wrinkles or to give volume in areas such as cheeks and lips. They can be made of varying substances such as; collagen, hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid and polymethylmethacrylate beads. At pHskin Cosmetic Clinic we only use hyaluronic acid dermal fillers as this filler can be dissolved if necessary making it, we believe, the safest option.

How long do dermal fillers last?

This will depend on the type of dermal filler, site of injection and lifestyle factors of the patient. As an example, cheek fillers, which are of a thicker consistency, can be expected to last considerably longer (18 months – 2 years) than thinner dermal fillers used for the lips (6 – 9 months).

Are dermal fillers safe?

There are risks associated with having dermal filler injections and this is why at pHskin Cosmetic Clinic we encourage patients to consider carefully if this procedure is for them. Every effort is made to minimise any risks such as careful injection technique, a clean clinical environment, ongoing training programmes, access to emergency equipment and as health care professionals we are a member of the Aesthetic Complications Expert Group (ACE).

Who can have dermal fillers?

If you are considering dermal fillers, you will be required to undergo a full consultation where you will be asked to disclose your medical history. If you have certain medical issues you will be advised about the risks involved and you may not be suitable for treatment. Risks in pregnancy and breastfeeding are unknown and therefore treatment will be declined during this time.

What can dermal fillers treat?

Dermal fillers can be used to plump and give volume to areas such as the cheeks and lips. The tear trough region, where under the eyes have become sunken and a line in the skin has formed, can be lifted with dermal filler. Another popular area for dermal filler treatment is the nose to mouth and mouth to chin areas that can become deeper with age. Dermal fillers can also be used to hydrate skin such as the lips and around the mouth.

What to expect during treatment.

During dermal filler treatment your skin may be numbed using a numbing cream for approximately 20 – 30 minutes. Once the cream is removed and your skin has been cleansed, the filler is carefully injected into the specific area/s to be treated. You may feel a sensation as the filler is deposited but this is not normally painful. The filling effect is immediately apparent and you will see a noticeable difference instantly. During the treatment, your practitioner may ask if you would like to see how the treatment is progressing and you may be encouraged to give feedback so we can achieve your desired look.

Aftercare

Once your treatment is over you will be given written post treatment instructions and advised to keep the area clean and free of makeup for 12 hours. You will be encouraged to contact the clinic if you have any concerns following treatment and will be offered a complimentary review appointment if deemed necessary.
